Background: After two back to back successes with The Crusading Spirit and Short Men, Long Shadows, I was eager to start writing a third history movie. During the year, my favorite period in history had been the Dark Ages, more specifically the basic European history between A.D. 1000 and 1450. When it became clear that this kind of movie wouldn't work too well since my world history class was ending around the same time I was writing this script, I gave up on the Khan Artist and began work on The Cheerleader Conspiracy.
